"Run from it!", to quote Dr. Harry Black, former President of the American Society of Hypertension. He is referring to a recent article by the Cooper group of Dallas that was published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
This group's research found that those with a high level of fitness in their 40s or maybe earlier, had a marked reduction in their likelihood of developing Alzheimer disease later. The average age of those evaluated was 50 years.
Dr. Black's message to us? "Don't wait until you have an event; get on the treadmill, put your running shoes on, row , do whatever it is you want to do, but try to get your fitness level up high...."
